Lunch At Zam Zam, Oasis 9, Shah Alam

Is Arabic food a new trend? Lately I noticed that a few Arabic restaurants open business in Shah Alam. Is it due to more Arabs are fleeing to Malaysia due to the unrest in the Middle East? Or is it due to many Malaysian prefer Arabic food after returning from Umrah and Haji?

Anyway, when we read about the opening of Zam Zam restaurant at Oasis 9 from a friend’s wall update at Facebook, I told my wife, why not?

When we reach there, the restaurant was about 40% full. However, service was a bit slow. We have to wait a while before someone attended us. Hmmm… imagine if it is 100% full.

This was our first time in an Arabic restaurant, so everything was new. Even the name of the dishes were not so familiar … Chicken Mandy, Lamb Mandy, Kabsa, Matbi, Madghut …. etc. We didn’t know what to expect :) but luckily the menu has pictures and some basic information about the food and the waiter was very kind to explain all our questions. Since most of the food are served in large quantities, we ordered 3 instead of 4. I came with my wife and two of my children.

  • Chicken Mandy
  • Kabsa Rice with Chicken Kebab
  • Chicken Kabsa
  • Iced Milo, Iced Tea, Banana Shake and Mineral Water

The place looks ok, nothing grand to make it look expensive and nothing cheesy that made it look cheap.

As for the food, overall, everything tasted great. Just that the banana shake was not nice. I think maybe it was due to they used real bananas plus milk. And my tongue is so used to synthetic taste :)

The rice was pretty good. The aroma and taste was just nice. My son loves the Kabsa rice, but although chicken is his favorite food, he was not into the Chicken Kebab. Maybe it was due to the spices, but it was really good based on my standard. The Chicken Mandy was superb as well. They gave me half, but I think, I could finish it even if they gave me a whole chicken.

  • Ambience: 3/5
  • Service: 3/5
  • Food/Drinks: 4/5
  • Price: 3/5

Would I go to Zam Zam again. Most probably, but there is still a few more Arabic restaurant in Shah Alam for me to decide whether I will visit this place again or not :)

Where is Zam Zam, Shah Alam?
If you are good in using Google maps, then take a look at them map below. If you are not familiar with Google map and very new to Shah Alam, just ask where is Oasis 9. However Oasis 9 is a brand new shopping mall, so it will be easier if you ask where is Shah Alam Mall. It’s about 300 meters from Shah Alam Mall.

Satu serving macam kat D’Arab dengan half chicken baru RM17 compared to D’Arab RM25

Kena try yang kat Giant KD tu.. Rasa dia memang lain sikit Cuma yang tak best, beras dia tak panjang panjang macam kat restoran Arab yang lain

You can see the shop front from the main road: Persiaran Jubli Perak -> And that road is used to get there.

Sahara Tent in Section 9 in the Plaza. Bit pricey and portions a bit small but good quality fresh food. Lovely relaxing evironment.
