A Visit To Perpustakaan Raja Tun Uda, Shah Alam
From outside, the Raja Tun Uda library looks like any modern ordinary building but once you step your foot inside, everything that you would imagine how a libray would look like – changed. If my university’s library was like this, then I would be spending more time in the library and got first class
It’s not quite, but it is noisy. Yes I mean it.
This is simply because the lobby and the place where the books are at are separated with doors, while the Zon Kreatif, the place for kids, is without doors and it is located at the lobby. When there are kids around, it’s alwasy noisy. Here, if the ‘fun’ type of noise.
The funny thing is, you can’t find a kid making noise whining to get out of the library, but you will find them having fun looking for books and reading loudly with their parents.
That’s what we did when we visited Shah Alam newest library, Perpustakaan Raja Tun Uda, last week. Having fun with the kids.
Once you enter the Zon Kreatif, you can see a tree which is called the reading tree with 2 red horses ready to be ridden. With the park concept plus a mix of right colors around Zon Kreatif, reading would not be something annoying to the kids and it would surely be very easy for them to pick up a book to read. Of course with a slight push from the parents. Since you need to take off your shoes before entering any zones, it instanly makes you feel at home.
We spent the next 3 hours looking for books and reading aloud.
Other than books, computers are availble for rent, but if you brought your own tablets or laptops or smartphones, wifi is availble free of charge. There’s also a section in the Zon Kreatif with Nintendo Wii. Did’nt pay much attention of the games available as we already have a console at home and purpose of visiting that day is to read. Maybe next time.
When it was almost lunch time, we visited the cafeteria. It’s another building just next to the libray and there’s also a lake outside. With ducks. The view is breathtaking. If you’re doing a final catch up for your exam at the library, a break at the cafeteria is just what you need to take the stress away.
Since children are not allowed to other sections, we weren’t able to explore the whole libray. From the signage, there are facilities like a Mini 3D Theater and also XD/6D Theater, but with kids around, we have to postpone this to another time. We took some pictures though. There are ample seats and sofas, and everyhing seems relax and at home.
The library is not a dreaded place as what we use to think and you would already know that if the next time you plan for a visit to the library, the kids will definitely say ‘Yes!’
Oh… one more thing, membership is free and open to all. You are allowed to borrow three books at a time for three weeks. It can be extended for another 3 weeks. Check the details with the receptionist.
